Dr. Forbes is a trailblazer in the use of the glp-1 agonist medications that are currently transforming the treatment of obesity, employing the earliest class of these medications in treatment protocols beginning in 2009 at the university of rochester. she is a specialist and consulting authority/ thought leader in the field of medical weight management, the role and function of medication in the treatment of obesity, and the public health and public policy dimensions of obesity.

With the US, and much of the developed world experiencing an obesity pandemic, adolescent obesity has itself become a critical public health issue and a serious personal health challenge to millions of teens. Dr. Forbes sub-specializes in the often complex treatment of adolescent obesity during the critical passage from childhood to adult maturity.

Dr. Forbes received her medical degree from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, trained in general surgery at St. Luke's - Roosevelt Hospital Center, and completed fellowship training in advanced laparoscopic surgery at the world-renowned European Institute of Telesurgery (ircad) in Strasbourg, France. following her training, she was recruited to university at buffalo, where she co-founded and directed the UB bariatric surgery center of excellence. She was subsequently recruited to the University of Rochester in 2009 as an associate professor of surgery, where she conducted research and taught surgery to medical students, surgical residents, and fellows. She was also an active member of the high-volume medicine bariatric surgery center.
